Picking Antioxidants of the Blue Variety

Jeff and I ventured out to find blueberries today after hearing they are ready to pick. I lasted a whole 45 minutes. The bugs just love me, let me tell you, and I have no patience for them. So, I had to call it a day. We'll have to go again when it's cooler so I can cover up and not feel like I'm swimming in my own sweat. Sorry, but 70 degrees + sweatshirt + pregnancy = not very comfortable!

On a completely unrelated note, my curtains came today! Unfortunately, I ordered 60" in length when I thought I was choosing the width, so they'll be getting shipped back. Bummer, I thought I was getting a deal by buying curtains rather than making them. Guess we'll be waiting a little longer for more attractive window coverings. (Did I mention that we've been using a blanket?)

I {heart} Mondays...Or do I?

You know, I look forward to Mondays so much because it's Jeff's day off.

What a fool I must be.

I think I've seen him for a total of two hours today (while he was conscious that is). I was up well before him when the chiropractor called to return my message about scheduling an appointment. I'll admit, the Doc woke me out of a deep sleep. About an hour and a half later, I left to go to said appointment. (I feel the need to add that the UPS came precisely ten minutes after I left to drop off my curtains but since no one was available to sign, they were unable to leave them.) I returned an hour later to a still snoring husband. I woke him up and about an hour later he left for an appointment. He was home just long enough to eat and relax a few minutes before heading out to golf.

Tuesday is his other day off. Maybe I don't love Monday, after all it is his golfing day. Maybe it's Tuesday that I love.

Roasting Marshmallows, My Way

I had a craving for something sweet. Chocolate would have been better but alas, I had already polished off the chocolate chips over a week ago and haven't replenished my supply yet. I only had one sweet thing to eat that didn't require some time in the oven: a bag of marshmallows! I'm just hoping that roasting them this way doesn't mean that I ingested propane...either way, they satisfied my craving! Speaking of cravings, I have been dreaming of chocolate (not literally) for so long now that I'm beginning to think that maybe this baby is a girl. And to think all this time I thought it was a boy. I guess we'll find out in three weeks, give or take a week.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!?

(Please excuse the fuzziness, I cannot keep still. And please excuse how dirty my stove looks. I promise it's not as bad as it seems, it's very old.)

A Birthday Kind of Day

Happy birthday to my Mom today! This wonderful woman also gained her eighth child 21 years ago on this same day! And this is what she looks like today:

Maybe I should have smiled...but then I'd have to hear the comments about what a fake smile it is because it's a self portrait. :)

Oh, and for some reason this picture turned out kind of blue, any ideas as to why? My skirt should be fuchsia not purple.

The sun is shining...sort of

I have been waiting and waiting to get something a little nicer than a blanket for my living room window. I finally picked out fabric that I liked (and that Jeff didn't hate) but then I took a few seconds to calculate in my head how much it would cost. Well...lets just say it would cost less to buy already made curtains AND have them shipped than it would be just to buy the patterned side of the curtains that I had wanted to make. So I picked out a lovely set of aqua curtains (they looked closer to teal in the picture) from West Elm. They are solid but I think I'll eventually add something to them, beads sounds like fun! They should be in by next week so I'll be sure to show you pictures when they're up! I can't wait!

The only downside for me is that I don't have a project to look forward to. I had been brainstorming what I would do for so doggone long now and just like that {snap} my ideas went out the window!

I guess I still have curtains to finish in the bedroom...

Thank-you!

Thanks to everyone who made it to my baby shower on Monday! And a special thanks to Kate for making it happen! We appreciate it so much! It was so fun to get all that cute little baby stuff that we'll be using in just a few weeks!

I was so glad to see nearly all of the girls in the family, both sides in fact! We were just missing Jennifer and Larissa. I wish they could have been there but I was thrilled to see the majority regardless!

We had a house full that night with Sara and her kids as well as my Mom and the rest of my sisters that were with her (minus Gretch, who went the rest of the way up). I don't think we've ever had that many people stay over at once! I either slept very deeply that night or everyone went to sleep and stayed asleep. Hopefully it went as well as it seemed!

(The first two pictures are from my Mom's blog. I gave my camera to my sister to take pictures at the shower but I didn't realize I still had it set for fireworks so they all turned out pretty dark.)

Is there a bomb shelter around here?

The enticing smell of popcorn lingers in the air.

The sound of a drum beats its way to my window.

And I think we're being bombed.

Or, maybe it's just the festivities of Pioneer Days happening all around our apartment.

I'm not really sure what it's all about but apparently it's an annual deal. Jeff and I had planned on meeting up with some friends for the parade this morning but he ended up working a few hours of overtime yesterday (or today?) so he didn't get home until 5am. He even got out of bed this morning, with the help of bacon and eggs, but then decided that some more sleep would do him good since he had to work again this afternoon. I couldn't agree more, I'd rather not have him falling asleep at the wheel on the way home!

There are fireworks tonight that (I believe) will be displayed over Teal Lake. Soo...I just need to step outside my door to see them! Doesn't get much easier than that!

And that popcorn...I feel like I've been hungry all day!

BELLY SHOT COMING SOON.

A Weekend on Sunrise Lane

We stumbled in the door in the wee hours of today. That's pretty normal for us considering Jeff works afternoon shift. It's easier for us to come home really late rather than get up and go in the morning.

The weather was beautiful this weekend. Perfect for a few days at the camp! A few dips into the frigid waters of Lake Superior kept us cool while we visited on the beach with a few cousins and of course, Grandma L who seems to be enjoying her time at the camp so far (her summer home). I was so disappointed to find that I had left my camera behind! I actually remembered to pull it out but I found the case and no camera (it's sitting on the microwave of all places).

My sister Sara stopped by Emily's on the way down to my Mom and Dad's so we were lucky enough to be able to see her and her kids for a few hours. They all had a blast getting to know their cousins again!

It was definitely an enjoyable weekend, and now it's back to reality again! (I feel like I'm telling myself that every other week now...)

It's Independence Day!

Jeff and I are headed up to the camp this weekend. I'm pretty excited! All of the camping trips that I thought we had planned didn't really work out so this works for me!

I did a little baking to take with us. As usual, I started way too late so here it is nearly 1 am (technically Saturday) and I'm still waiting for the cinnamon rolls to cool down enough to put away! Why do I do this to myself?!

Have fun this weekend with whatever plans you may (or may not) have! Happy Independence Day!
