Be Kind

I saw this quote on Pinterest today and it just kind of stuck with me. I think about this often as I'm reminded almost weekly that we don't always know what battles a person might be fighting. Throughout the last several years, and maybe it's just a result of becoming an adult, my eyes have been opened to so many people's struggles. Some are open about them, others are not. Some we know, others we don't. For as often as I am surprised by each trial I also realize that they are not alone. I may never know who dreads getting out of bed each morning to face the day. I might never know which close friend battles her demons on a daily basis because she never tells another soul. I do know this, there are certain people who could drive me nuts because I couldn't figure out why there were so unsocial, withdrawn, or just downright mean. As it turns out, I did learn of some of their struggles along the way and it made me ashamed that I hadn't treated with more love and understanding. Often, a person is the way they are because of the battles they have fought. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt these days but I know I often fail miserably. This quote is a good reminder to me that I really don't know what demons each person, whether it be stranger or close friend, encounters each day.

That was a bit heavier than my usual posts, sorry if I left you feeling depressed! It's something that's been on my mind lately.

It snowed today

One of these days I'd like to start meal planning again...
I was really looking forward to making a roast today using the same recipe as the shredded beef at my wedding. Until my pregnant brain forget to put the roast in the fridge yesterday morning and then stared down the still-quite-frozen hunk of meat this morning until I finally decided it wasn't going to work out today. I'm still trying to figure out what to make for supper tonight as I listen to the spunking and crying from a certain 2-year-old who wants me to put his blanket and pillow and lovey back into the crib. The crib that held all of those things until the same 2-year-old threw them onto the floor. He's tiring out...I think.

Yesterday I decided to start fall cleaning, considering I never really got around to spring cleaning, it sounded like a pretty good idea! I shined up the living room and that's about as far as I got. That would be the easiest room in the house, by the way. Then, this morning that 2-year-old that I've been talking about dumped dirt from my money tree onto the floor. Gee thanks. He also figured out how easy it is to move little step stools all around the kitchen and dig in everything his heart desires. I'm glad I caught him playing with the serving spoon in the sink before he put it back in the drawer.
Aside from that, I was able to get out of the house two evenings in a row without Adrian. Thanks hon! Okay, so both days were planned by someone else but hey, it was fun to visit with some of the ladies I haven't seen for the past month or so.
I feel like I'm all over the place today so that's all for now. And btw, Adrian did calm down, I was able to sneak his lovey into arms reach without him seeing me and that must have done the trick. I know you were wondering.

A Little Clarification

A friend of mine moved away about a year ago and unfortunately, we don't call each other up very often. So I was somewhat surprised to get a phone call from her the other day...wondering if I was expecting. I had to laugh because I hadn't been to Mom and Dad's for about a week and half, which is a long time for me. I had been there just the day before and the first thing I heard when I stepped in the door was "we figured you were waiting til you got a belly to come over." Anyways back to the original story. My friend's suspicions come from the previous post where I mentioned buying baby toys at a garage sale. I hate to keep you in suspense but...I'm not pregnant! I bought those toys because most of my married friends have babies or toddlers. I figured I should have some way to keep them entertained if I ever get around to having those said friends visit!
I'm actually somewhat surprised that no one has asked me that question before now. I mean considering every other young married woman is pregnant right now--there are three in my family alone--I figured I would just be considered pregnant by default.
I hope that cleared up any questions anyone may have been having!

Yikes, I don't think I've ever been this personal on my blog before!

Enjoy your weekend! I'm off to Teresa T's bachelorette party tonight!

High School and Beyond

Life is so different after high school. In high school you're concerned about the latest styles, how you're going to afford the expensive school lunches, and whether or not you're going to get a passing grade on your physics exam. Not to mention the annoying dramatic people who complain about how dramatic everyone is.
I always heard that I would miss high school once it was over. I didn't believe it. I still don't! I enjoy working so much more than I ever enjoyed school. Don't get me wrong, I did like school, got decent grades, and had a great group of both Christian and "school" friends. Lunches at the "Finn Table" were always very entertaining. Watching Wade and Keith push the teachers to the limit. Yet we still had the principle sit with us a time or two and tell us "I don't know why, but I really like your group of kids." :)
I was amazed for the longest time about how different work was than school. In school, we were so seperated by age and grade. There was the "popular" crowd, the "goths," the "preppy" kids and so on. At work it was just one group working together. I was the youngest (at 17) when I first started and the oldest was about 55. It didn't matter. I was never treated like I was so young or didn't know what I was doing (even though I'm sure I was at first). It's nice to be respected!

Baby's blood

A woman walked into work this morning with her son and asked to leave a note for her son's teacher. Apparantly he had gone home the day before saying that he drank blue milk that tastes like baby's blood...Sounds like a flavor of Bertie Bott's jelly beans.

Good news! Jeff is off of school for the next two weeks...up until the day before my birthday, figures huh?

Funny how time flies...
I was able to leave work early today so I came to Mom and Dad's. As I pulled up I noticed some kids milling around the yard and when I walked up to the deck I saw a whole slew of kids sitting on the trampoline and nearly tripped over 30 duffel bags. Turns out confo kids are here today. I remember the girls talking about it early but had forgotten until now. It's just strange, I was in confirmation about five years ago. While I never felt very old while I was in it, looking at all these young kids makes me realize just how young I truly was! But the strangest part of all is that I still clearly recall thinking how old Brad or Amanda's confirmation class was at the time. Nowadays down here, I'm among the oldest at kyds so I guess 14 and 15 is pretty young.
