Maybe I'll be back to more frequent blogging in the fall...
Last Wednesday was my birthday. I'm 23. Not 25 or 26 like my brother Dan thought. And no, I don't have wrinkles. Okay, maybe a few, why do you think I have bangs??
It was hot, hot, hot on my birthday and it just so happened that it was also Jeff's turn to drive. All plans of a refreshing day at Lake Superior vanished into thin air when I heard that news. It was the hottest day of the week, too. Instead, Adrian and I headed to Teal Beach right after breakfast. Okay, so maybe not until 11 because as I recall, it did thunderstorm in the morning. We stayed and enjoyed the water and the company of a 3-year-old who was trying to get Adrian's attention until he finally told me he wanted lunch.
I was so surprised since it felt like we just got to the beach but then I remembered how late it was when we finally made it down and by that time it was 1:00. Since it was too hot to even heat up leftovers and since it was my birthday, we walked over to Border Grill and enjoyed some burritos for lunch. We stayed for quite a while considering how S-L-O-W-L-Y this little boy eats. That's was more than fine by me since the air conditioning was half my reason for going! My mom called while we were there so I chatted with her for a bit while I waited for Adrian to finish up. (It was my mom's birthday too!) By the time we got home it was close to 3. I put Adrian down for a nap and decided to take a nap myself. What else was I to do while stuck in a sweltering hot apartment for 2+ hours?
I woke up practically dripping in sweat when Adrian hollered that he was up and I hurried us, as quickly as I could with my foggy brain, back to the beach.
We stayed until Jeff came home from work then, headed out for dinner at the Casa Calabria. Which, by the way, was pretty much a big mistake all around especially considering Adrian is wheat intolerant and it's an italian place. He ended up dipping strips of grilled chicken into marinara sauce.
When we left the restaurant, it was 100 degrees. We went straight to the nearest beach and several of our friends happened to be there so we crashed their little get together and enjoyed Lake Superior for the next several hours. I could have stayed at that beach until the sun went down but my dearest said the flys were biting so we left and took a drive around Presque Isle before heading back home.
It was a pretty good, relaxing birthday. Not much effort on my part! The only thing missing was a cake...;)

our bery hot weekend
We didn't end up taking the bus into town. Saturday, I decided to stay home and try to catch up on laundry--didn't happen since I forgot the quarters in the car. You know, the one Jeff drove to work. I think we went to the beach across the street. I honestly don't remember. Then, Amanda called with a plan to meet halfway for a beach day on Sunday. (In case you don't know, I live less than two hours away from 4 of my sisters but we have never met halfway, it's always all the way or nothing I guess.) It was hot, hot, hot! We went to a bay on Lake Superior and the water was really nice, just the perfect temperature to cool off and still be able to feel your toes! Emily was there with her family as well. I think Cale was pretty unimpressed with Adrian and his toddler ways. He was trying to dig a hole and Adrian was throwing tiny little fistfuls of sand back in. I guess Kendall was a better beach buddy, she didn't seem to notice when Adrian refilled her hole. We stayed to grill some burgers and shortly after that we heard thunder so we packed it up. It stormed the rest of the evening in our area.
Today, we have had rain on and off and it's pretty warm but we've stayed inside for the most part. I am supposed to be cleaning up the mess we made yesterday evening and catching up on laundry but to be honest, I haven't done much of anything. I have carnitas cooking on the stove for supper and Jeff is home from work! I think we just might hit that snail infested beach tonight. Or the gorgeous shores of Lake Superior. I'll let you know. ;)

Sweet Summertime
Jul 15, 2011
We have been enjoying summer over here! (Much more than I did last year from what I can remember...) I can't say that we've had a ton of beach days but then I don't think we've had too many really hot days. That's exactly why I love it here! Adrian and I have had plenty of trips to the park and a few walks around town with the whole family. Yesterday morning, we went to the entrance to the bike trail in town and went 'exploring.' I wanted to get out of the house, Adrian has been so crabby lately (teething I hope, I just picked something up for that today) so I think that's part of the reason we've been keeping so busy. He is much more content seeing new places and doing new things which means I'm content as well!
We headed off on a dirt path that I have always wondered about. We didn't make it too far, that boy is S-L-O-W and it was getting too hot for pants and long sleeves. The picture above is an area to the side of the trail, I think this overgrown pavement was part of the railroad station that is located behind us. And very, very close to this is a letterbox.
I let him run around for a bit once we made it back to the trail head before making our way back home for lunch. I stopped at a garage sale on the way and ran into our friend Jill, I haven't seen her in a long time so it was nice to catch up!
I'm already planning out our weekend excursions; Adrian and I hit up some garage sales this morning (a pair of shoes for him and an exercise ball for me) but I skipped a bunch and put a note to get to them tomorrow. I ended up finished up really early and now that Jeff is working overtime tomorrow, I'm wishing I had checked them all out! (We still have one vehicle and when he works OT, he doesn't carpool.) We did some grocery shopping and then went on a little 'date' to Border Grill for lunch. Yum! (Did you know they have a gluten-free option? I was pretty impressed when I learned that!) Jeff and I have a date tonight, I hope. We're waiting to hear back from the sitter to see if it'll work out. I hope so! I really need a night out right now!
This weekend is supposed to be hot-hot-hot...or at least that's what I heard on the radio. We might just be trying out the city bus system tomorrow to go to the beach! I've been wanting to try it out anyways and my friend Kate is out of town so we can't convince her to come with us, I mean, give us a ride. I'll let you know how it goes! ;) Hopefully Adrian loves it since he's been so into buses lately, and anything else with wheels for that matter. Happy Friday!

Sweet Summertime
Jul 8, 2011
Lately
It's so hard to blog in the summer! Here are a few updates for what we've been up to:
- Went to the camp this past weekend while Jeff's aunt and uncle were there. So, so nice to break up our usual (non) routine. Hopefully we'll venture out to do a little more visiting when we're up again next month. (Although, Jeff's family will be there at that time so that might be tough to sneak away...)
- I found out how much fun it is to take Little A to the beach these days, it's so different from last year! Now I can actually let him play in the water without hovering over him!
- Our little family went for a walk last night and as I was complaining about how bloated a feel (too many beans maybe...ha) Jeff found a $5 bill on the sidewalk. I suggested, "Let's get ice cream!" So my dearest treated us to a couple cones. Thanks to whoever lost their money, it went to a good cause.
- I've been thinking about our upcoming trip to Mackinac Island. I've never been there, can you believe it?! I've only driven by it a hundred times. That will be our first trip without Adrian, I'm so excited!
- Adrian has been heard saying things like "I want zoom cars on Mama." He loves to drive his cars on Jeff and me (and to be honest, we don't really mind) :) but he always wants me to lay on the couch first. The other day he even handed me a pillow. It's not so bad, this mom stuff.
- Adrian and I are going swimming today. Kate is picking us up in a few minutes so I guess I should get ready to go!
